Shoulder Pain Treatment at the Hand and Shoulder Center

The first thing we will do is take time to listen to your medical history and conduct a physical. Depending on the cause of your discomfort and your medical history, we will work to determine the best treatment for your shoulder pain. With any condition of the shoulder, we always look at the most conservative treatment options with the lowest associated risk.

Treatment for Torn Rotator Cuff

A torn rotator cuff is a very common shoulder injury, especially among athletes. Usually, a torn rotator cuff can be treated with physical therapy, injections, and rest. We prefer to use these more conservative treatments whenever possible before suggesting surgery. However, a full rotator cuff repair will probably require shoulder surgery. In such cases, our team is highly experienced in minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery.

Treatment for Shoulder Impingement

Also known as swimmer’s shoulder, impingement syndrome is caused by repetitive shoulder activities, aging, or injury resulting in inflammation in the shoulder. For most cases of shoulder impingement, we will recommend analgesic and steroid injections accompanied by rest and physical therapy. However, in some cases, arthroscopic shoulder surgery may be necessary.
